The new travel rules from 19 July
Depending on whether you’re travelling to a Green, Amber or Red destination, and your vaccination status, you’ll need to take at least one – and up to three PCR tests – upon your return to the UK. The HALO saliva-based PCR tests are approved by the UK Government and make it painless, easy and affordable for you. Our tests are also suitable for PCR testing should the destination you’re travelling to require it. You can check using the government’s search tool.
Please note: there are different testing requirements for children, depending on their age. Please see our FAQs page and check government guidelines for details. Also note the above guidelines relate to England only. The government’s travel regulations may differ in Scotland and Wales. HALO is not available in Northern Ireland or outside the UK.
Our travel advice is intended as a guide only – rules change frequently and it is your responsibility to ensure the advice we have provided is still relevant at the time of travel. HALO cannot be held responsible for any changes to this advice.
Before you fly from the UK
Depending on the rules of your destination, you may need to take a PCR test before leaving the UK. You can search for your destination on the official government website.
On your return journey
You must also have proof of a negative COVID-19 test to travel back to England. The HALO service only operates in the UK, so you will need to book this separately in the country you’re travelling to.
Arrivals from Green list destinations
Even if fully vaccinated, everyone must book and pay for a Day 2 PCR test before travelling back to England – but you do not need to quarantine at home.
Arrivals from Amber list destinations
If you are fully vaccinated (you have had your final dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before the date you arrive in England) you need to book and pay for a Day 2 PCR test before travelling back to England. You do not need to quarantine at home.
If you are not fully vaccinated (you have not had your final dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before the date you arrive in England) you need to book and pay for Day 2 and Day 8 PCR tests before travelling back to England. You must quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days.
Or you can choose to book and pay for a PCR test on Day 5 (known as “test to release”). If the result is negative (and the result of your Day 2 test was negative or inconclusive) you can end your quarantine. You can purchase a HALO Test for this purpose. You must still book and take your Day 2 and Day 8 tests.
Please note: the rules for France are different to those of other Amber list countries, and you’ll need to quarantine at home for 10 days even if you are fully vaccinated. Please see our FAQs page for more details.
Arrivals from Red list destinations
Everyone needs to book a managed quarantine hotel within a 14-day period before arrival. The booking will include your hotel, quarantine transport and COVID-19 tests on day 2 and day 8 of quarantine. NOTE: You do not need to purchase these tests from HALO.
